All fans are hearing this offseason is the concern about the Indianapolis Colts heading into 2021 without a suitable quarterback that could help them contend in the wake of Philip Rivers announcing his retirement.

Matthew Stafford got traded to the Los Angeles Rams. It seems the potential draft options for Indy could be waning as the buzz continues to help the stock of Mac Jones, Justin Fields and Trey Lance. We don’t know if Derek Carr, Deshaun Watson, Sam Darnold, Kirk Cousins, Matt Ryan or Jimmy Garoppolo are realistic options. We even got a dose of Andrew Luck rumors!

How about another old rumor making its round? Carson Wentz, anybody?

Here we go again! At this point, based on Wentz’s contract and recent play, the trade target Colts fans would prefer is Jalen Hurts … if that. But the Frank Reich-Wentz connection seemingly won’t die, even if the Colts aren’t explicitly mentioned in regard to what’s going on.

The Eagles reportedly aren’t keen on trading Wentz, but they’re also not rebuffing any trade talks. NFL insider Ian Rapoport claims they’re at least listening, and the Colts are in the mix, obviously due to the uncertainty surrounding the QB market. Many would venture to say they can’t let a year go to waste with this current roster.

Are the Colts serious or are they just trying to gauge the market for what it’ll cost to trade for one of the other aforementioned names? The other issue here is Wentz’s contract, which has four years and $128 million remaining. The Colts have the cap space to absorb that, but on what planet would they sacrifice a majority of it for a QB who has been regressing, even if they’re confident in Reich’s ability to bring him back to life?

Perhaps if you can surrender minimal assets or have the Eagles take on some of that money, it could be considered a win. Either way, the Wentz-Colts rumors will not die and it’s a development that will have fans ripping their hair out until the solution under center is resolved.
