Ranking the best moves the Colts can make at quarterback in 2020
3. Any of the top four quarterbacks in the 2020 Draft
I did say earlier that with the 13th pick, the Colts won’t be in a position to draft one of the top four quarterbacks in the draft (Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, Jordan Love). However, if the Colts loved what they saw from the 2020 Combine and the prospects’ respective college careers, the team could certainly trade up into the draft to select one of them. It’s almost a guarantee that Burrow will go first overall and Tagovailoa shortly thereafter. Herbert is also expected to go in the top five. Love has a wider range, rumored to go anywhere from inside the top ten to outside of the top 15.
There’s been little to no rumors surrounding any of the top prospects and the Colts, but nothing is out of the question. Ballard’s drafting ability is next to none in comparison to the rest of the front office, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see a trade at least into the top ten if the player is one they are completely confident in for the future.
Love would be the most likely selection of the four due to his availability around the 7-15 range. He also put together a very solid combine performance and could be the franchise player the Colts need. If the front office is sold on Love as a franchise player, it should be no surprise that the team trades into the top ten to secure him.
