A Comprehensive Guide to Colts Training Camp
By Ryan Stano
With Colts training camp starting this week, there is a lot to watch out for. Here are some of the things to keep an eye on during the duration of camp.
The Colts have a lot of work to do in training camp. Last season did not go the way that they had hoped for many different reasons. But this year is a new season, and they have an opportunity to improve by several wins. There are a bunch of things to look for during camp as well.
The number one thing to watch is the offensive line. We know who some of the starters will be, with Ryan Kelly, Anthony Castonzo, and Quenton Nelson. But we don’t know who will fill out the right guard and tackle positions. Jack Mewhort seems to have the inside track on the guard position, but Matt Slauson and rookie Braden Smith will push him. Mewhort might end up moving to right tackle if that is the case.
Wide receiver is another position to watch. There is no clear weapon behind T.Y. Hilton at that position, and camp will be revealing. It will be interesting to see who the other main receiver is, and if newcomer Ryan Grant is that guy.
The new systems will also be a big thing to watch, especially on the offensive end. Fans are hoping to have an exciting new offense that will allow Andrew Luck to showcase his talents. But the defense is learning a new system as well, and they need to vastly improve from last season.
Most positions on defense are up for grabs as well. The makeup of the defensive line and linebacking corp are unknown at this point, with only a few players locked in as starters. It will also be interesting to see who emerges as the starting cornerbacks.
