The Colts will need their rookie class to perform well in 2018, and they may be getting a major impact from one of their late round picks.

Selecting Quenton Nelson in the first round was a no-brainer for the Colts as he was possibly the best prospect in the entire draft class.

While Nelson will surely improve the interior of the offensive line in Indianapolis, an offensive guard can’t go out and win a game for you.

I’m going out on a bit of a limb here, but I believe sixth round wide receiver Deon Cain will have the biggest impact of any rookie in the Colts’ 2018 draft class.

Indianapolis desperately needed to add a number two receiver to take some of the pressure off of T.Y. Hilton in the passing game. General manager Chris Ballard didn’t get that job done in free agency, but he may have found his guy late in the draft.

Cain fell to the sixth round due to character issues, not a lack of talent.

Among wide receivers, he had the sixth-best 40-yard dash time at the Combine (4.43 seconds), the fifth-best three-cone drill time (6.71 seconds), and he was in the top 10 in the 60-yard shuttle (11.78 seconds).

Cain was also productive during his college career with over 2,000 yards receiving and 20 touchdowns in three seasons.

He comes from a Clemson program that has a great history of producing NFL wide receivers such as DeAndre Hopkins, Sammy Watkins, Martavis Bryant, and Mike Williams.

With a thin wide receiver depth chart, Cain should get the opportunity to show he belongs in the preseason.

As long as he stays out of trouble, I think Deon Cain will put up some big numbers in his rookie year.
