The Colts’ new coaching staff is starting to look very impressive under Frank Reich, and their latest addition should be another great move.
Here is a quick breakdown of the moves the Colts have made in building their coaching staff so far:
- Dave Borgonzie – Linebackers Coach
- Alan Williams – Defensive Backs Coach
- Raymond “Bubba” Ventrone – Special Teams Coach
- Nick Sirianni – Offensive Coordinator
- Matt Eberflus – Defensive Coordinator
Frank Reich’s coaching staff contains a mix of up-and-coming young coaches and established veterans, and the Colts added another qualified coach to that staff in Rusty Jones.
Jones will be the “Director of Sports Performance,” which sounds like a fancy title for what’s better known as a strength and conditioning coach.
Jones has been a strength coach in the NFL since he began working with the Bills in 1985. He was in Buffalo for nearly 20 years before moving to Chicago to become the Bears’ strength and conditioning coordinator.

Jones has been out of the league since 2013 working as a sports performance consultant for various professional and college teams, but the Colts have convinced him to come back to the NFL to work in Indianapolis.
Jones is one of the most decorated strength coaches of all-time winning the NFL strength and conditioning Lifetime Achievement in 2016, and he was also named the National Professional Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year in 2006.
The strength and conditioning program is one of the most underrated pieces of building a great team, and the Colts have found a qualified and accomplished man to lead that department in Rusty Jones.
