There has been a lot of speculation about the health of Andrew Luck’s shoulder after Josh McDaniels decided to stay in New England. However, Chris Ballard said there is no issue with Luck’s shoulder and he is recovering well.

Chris Ballard had some tough questions to answer in Wednesday’s press conference less than 24 hours after this whole Josh McDaniels situation hit the fan. One of those questions has been lurking for nearly a year now: how healthy is Andrew Luck?

ESPN’s Adam Schefter brought up a report from Chris Mortensen during the McDaniels fiasco that Andrew Luck may need additional surgery on his shoulder, and that questions regarding his health could have played a role in McDaniels’ decision.

Ballard addressed that issue in Wednesday’s press conference by saying that Luck will not need another surgery. The Colts general manager has remained positive throughout Luck’s recovery and he’s continuing that tone this offseason.

There were many other reasons that could explain McDaniels’ decision outside of Andrew Luck’s health.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft reportedly sweetened McDaniels’ contract with New England to keep him. There may have been some assurances that McDaniels will become the Patriots’ next head coach once Bill Belichick retires. And McDaniels reportedly thought it was best for his family to stay in New England.

We’ll never know the exact reasons why McDaniels backed out of his commitment with the Colts, but Chris Ballard is assuring fans that Andrew Luck’s shoulder should not be a concern. For now, I’ll believe it when I see Luck on the field in 2018.
