The Colts weakness at wide receiver was exposed this season with a backup quarterback, and general manager Chris Ballard needs to add some firepower at that position this offseason.

T.Y. Hilton is an unquestioned Pro Bowl wide receiver, and he had another productive year despite playing without Andrew Luck all season long. However, the Colts’ receiving corps didn’t have much depth behind Hilton.

Donte Moncrief was supposed to be Indianapolis’ number-two wide receiver, but he had a disappointing year and he may not be back with the team in 2018.

The Colts never really found a third option at wide receiver in 2017. Chester Rogers and Kamar Aiken shared time this season, but neither one of them really stood out and Aiken may be gone after just one year in Indianapolis.

The Colts have been looking for a solid number-two receiver to pair with T.Y. Hilton ever since Reggie Wayne left, and they’ll be doing that again this offseason.

This draft class has some intriguing wide receiver prospects, but none of them are worthy of being taken third overall. However, there could be a very talented receiver on the board at the beginning of the second round, and Chris Ballard could pull the trigger if he likes on of those prospects.

This year’s free agent class of wide receivers doesn’t have many big names, but there are a few players who could be a good fit on the opposite side of Hilton.

Jarvis Landry has been extremely productive during his career in Miami, and he may be the type of slot receiver Josh McDaniels likes to have in his system that features the quick passing game. Marqise Lee and Albert Wilson are other slot receivers who could be a fit, or the Colts could decide to sign another speedy receiver to pair with Hilton like Sammy Watkins.

It remains to be seen how Chris Ballard will add talent at wide receiver, but the Colts need to bring in a couple of wide receivers to make Andrew Luck’s life easier next season.
