With no hope of salvaging the rest of this 2017 season, the Colts have shut down linebacker Jon Bostic and center Ryan Kelly for the remainder of the year by placing them on injured reserve.

The Colts’ injured reserve list has become littered with key players in a year where everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. Andrew Luck, Jack Mewhort, Henry Anderson, Malik Hooker, and John Simon are among those players who have already suffered season-ending injuries, and they will now be joined by Jon Bostic and Ryan Kelly on that list.

Center Ryan Kelly

Ryan Kelly’s concussion must have been pretty serious as the Colts have decided to hold him out for the final two games of 2017.

He missed the second half of Week 12’s loss against the Titans with a concussion that has kept him out of the past three games, and ultimately ended his season. It looked like Kelly was making progress toward a return against the Broncos on Thursday night, but he was unable to clear the concussion protocol ahead of yet another disappointing loss.

There’s no reason to risk the health of Ryan Kelly over the Colts’ final two games, which they may be better off losing anyways.

Linebacker Jon Bostic

Jon Bostic was one of the bargain bin signings this offseason that has really paid off for the Colts. He’s been the by far the best inside linebacker on this roster, and he may be rewarded with a contract extension this offseason.

His knee injury will end his 2017 season, but he’s certainly proven that he can be a starting linebacker in this league.
