Indianapolis Colts Connections: Week 5 vs. San Francisco 49ers
By Andrew Ites
There will be a couple of deep connections between the Colts and 49ers when the teams take the field at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday.
Running Back Frank Gore
The most obvious connection between these two teams is Frank Gore, who will go down as an all-time great in one of the NFL’s most storied franchises.
Gore played the first ten seasons of his NFL career in San Francisco before joining the Colts in 2015. Gore rushed for over 11,000 yards (most in franchise history) and 64 touchdowns (second-most in franchise history) during his time with the 49ers.
Gore is now in his third season with the Colts, and he’s been disappointed with his tenure as he expected to be competing for championships during the twilight of his career.
He’s still been a great leader for this Colts team, but there is no question his Hall of Fame bust will be wearing a 49ers jersey in Canton.
Wide Receiver Pierre Garcon

The Colts drafted Pierre Garcon in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft, and he has developed into one of the league’s most consistent wide receivers.
Garcon didn’t play much as a rookie, but he still managed to rack up 2,519 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns during his four years in Indianapolis.
Garcon was then able to prove that he could put up big numbers without Peyton Manning as gained 4,549 receiving yards with 21 touchdowns in Washington including two 1,000-yard seasons. Garcon also lead the league in receptions in 2013.
It will be fun for Colts fans to see Garcon return to the place where he got his first chance to shine.
