The Colts made a couple of moves near the bottom of their roster signing Matt Jones to the practice squad and releasing Garrett Sickels as they begin Week 2 of the regular season.
Matt Jones was cut by Washington after two years with the Redskins as they shaved their roster down to the required 53 players for the regular season. The Colts then claimed the former third round pick to add some depth at the running back position after they made the necessary cuts, but released him shortly after.
Indianapolis has now decided to bring Matt Jones back on the practice squad. He will take linebacker Garrett Sickels‘ place on the practice squad as the Colts released him to make room for Jones.
Sickels signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in May, but was waived during the final round of cuts at the end of the preseason. The Colts brought him on to their practice squad, but will now be moving on from the former Penn State defensive end in favor of Jones.

Jones rushed for 490 yards with 304 yards receiving in 13 games for Washington as a rookie in 2015, then rushed for 460 yards in 7 games in his second NFL season before falling out of favor with the organization.
Jones is a multi-talented back that can contribute in both the run and pass game, and he’ll provide quality depth if any of the Colts’ top three running backs go down with an injury.
This is a low-risk signing with a possible high reward if Jones can regain the form that made him the starting running back in Washington.
