The Indianapolis Colts announced on Monday that the team has waived 4 additional players including tight end Konrad Reuland, wide receiver Daniel Anthrop, offensive tackle Keith Lumpkin, and running back Trey Williams.
Having cut ties with 10 players yesterday and after signing veteran running back Stevan Ridley, the Colts are now at 77 players, which means that Indianapolis will have to waive 2 more players before Tuesday’s 75-player roster limit afternoon deadline.
Of course, Anthrop and Williams are the names that stand out the most of this recently released group.
Originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Purdue, Anthrop had 57 receptions for 430 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns in 12 games during his senior season for the local Boilermakers. He was also able to return 16 kickoffs for 272 total kick return yards for a 17.0 kick return average.
Through 3 preseason games with the Colts, Anthrop had 1 reception for 8 yards and 2 tackles on special teams–seemingly buried on the team’s wide receiver depth chart.
Regarding Williams, the 2nd-year running back finished with 8 carries for 10 rushing yards (1.25 ypc avg)–but was without a carry in the team’s 3rd preseason game which was ultimately a telling sign, especially with Ridley recently signed.
Still, Williams did stand out a bit as a receiver in the backfield, catching 4 receptions for 32 receiving yards, including a 7-yard touchdown pass from Stephen Morris in Week 2 of preseason against the Baltimore Ravens.
