Colts CB Vontae Davis had minor foot surgery
By Evan Reller
Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis didn’t duplicate his dominant 2014 season, and a recent surgery might indicate why.
Tucked away in his Scouting Combine press conference, coach Chuck Pagano stated that Vontae Davis had a minor procedure on his foot. A nagging injury would explain the drop off in Davis’ play from 2014 to 2015. He honestly didn’t look 100 percent healthy at all this past season.

Davis has dealt with a number of minor lower body injuries during his time the Colts, including a bad foot back in 2012. He’s had some knee and hamstring issues as well, but nothing that has sidelined him for a significant amount of time the past three seasons.
Pagano indicated that Davis’ injury wasn’t expected to be a long term issue and there was no indication of his availability going forward. The Colts won’t be together as a full team until May for minicamp, which would give Davis about three months to get healthy. It certainly sounds like he’ll be ready to go by training camp at the end of July.
Davis dealt with hamstring, knee, and this foot injury during the 2015 season but didn’t miss a game and went to the Pro Bowl. He finished the year with four interceptions and 16 pass breakups.

The Colts are thin at cornerback with Greg Toler being a free agent (who they should not re-sign) and D’Joun Smith returning from an injury plagued rookie season. It is safe to say the team will be in the market for another corner regardless of Davis’ health in 2016.
