Colts Talk Patriots and ‘Taking Care of Business’

Business was as usual for the Indianapolis Colts on Monday, even though the team has a widely anticipated matchup with the New England Patriots this week on Sunday Night Football.

If the players were supposed to buy into the nationwide hype and noise, the Colts clearly weren’t buying it–having clearly been coached up on talking points regarding their arch-nemesis:

"“One, we get up for every game,” said quarterback Andrew Luck Monday. “I think every game is important. This certainly is a big game. It is the next game. It is a very, very good team that is undefeated coming into town, and there certainly is a history between us and them. It’s also a new year. You’ve got to take care of business at home, so we’re excited.”"

Of course, no one on the Colts knows the Patriots better than perhaps longtime kicker Adam Vinatieri, who played his first 10 seasons with New England before surprisingly signing with Indianapolis in 2006. Vinatieri expects a well coached and intense Patriots team like always–ready to compete at a high level at Lucas Oil Stadium come Sunday night:

"“Obviously, we know who we’re playing,” said Vinatieri. “They’re a good team. They’re the next team on our schedule. They’ll come in ready to play, and we’re going to have to play a good game.”“I expect them to come in well prepared with their hair on fire ready to play hard, so we just have to match their intensity and I know our crowd is going to be wild and crazy and trying to help us out on that too,” added Vinatieri. “It’s going to be an electric atmosphere and hopefully, we play well.”"

However, even newcomers like running back Frank Gore, who are being freshly thrown into the rivalry’s fire, realize that this game may have a little extra to it despite comments to the contrary:

"“They’re the defending Super Bowl champs, so everyone wants to beat them,” said Frank Gore. “Obviously, they’re a great team with a lot of great players and we have to out there and play well to try to win the game.”“Yeah, playoff game, everything about the deflated footballs and everything,” when asked about the rivalry. “I know that’s one of the top teams in the AFC. They’ve been doing great in the AFC, and so we want that spot. As long as we keep taking steps the right way, I think we took a pitstop last week–especially on the offensive side of the ball. I think we’ll have a good game.”"
