Colts Andrew Luck: ‘Preparing to Start and Play’

According to his head coach Chuck Pagano, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck practiced on a limited basis on Tuesday, allegedly taking most of the snaps in a practice that was closed to the media:

"“Yeah, he (Andrew Luck) took most of the snaps, and Alex Tanney took the others,” said Pagano Tuesday."

With Matt Hasselbeck out with illness, Luck took the majority of snaps in what’s assumed to have been a very light practice for team. However, Pagano was once again cryptic when asked about Luck’s availability for Thursday night’s game against the Houston Texans:

"“Getting better,” said Pagano. “He’s trending in the right direction.”"

When asked specifically how Luck’s throws have looked in comparison to before his shoulder injury, Pagano wasn’t budging either:

"“He looks good,” replied Pagano regarding Luck’s throws Tuesday. “He looks good. He’s always looked good. I’ve never seen him throw a bad pass.”"

Of course, what better way to find out how Luck is doing than to ask the man himself, as he talked to the media Tuesday afternoon:

"“Yeah, feeling better everyday,” said Luck. “Good to get out there and be outside and preparing for Houston, which is a tough team as we all know. Great battles with the Texans, so yeah better everyday.”"

When asked whether his throws are as sharp as pre-injury, Luck hinted that he may not be quite at 100% with his throws due to presumably diminished shoulder strength:

"“That’s a good question,” replied Luck. “I think I’ve gotten better everyday, and I don’t think I’m necessarily where I’d want to be today in a perfect, perfect world, but better everyday.”"

However, make no mistake about it, Luck is still preparing like he’ll be the starting quarterback on Thursday night against the Texans. At least, as it currently stands:

"“Yeah, preparing to start and play, and again, have a chance to go up against a really good football team in the Texans, so that’s the preparation mindset,” concluded Luck."
