According to ESPN, the Indianapolis Colts not only have 3 of the NFL’s Top 100 players, but they also have a Top 5 roster overall.
Per ESPN’s Field Yates, the Colts have the 5th best roster overall in the NFL behind the likes of the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos, and New England Patriots respectively (via ESPN Insider):
"5. Indianapolis ColtsNumber of players in the Top 100: 3Highest ranked player: QB Andrew Luck (12)It might seem obvious, but it never ceases to amaze me just how much coaches and evaluators around the league are impressed by Luck. “I think — pure talent — it’s him and Rodgers [as the] best guys because they can run and throw,” one NFL defensive coach said. Luck has helped catapult Indianapolis to three straight playoff appearances, and provided he stays healthy, this team is geared to win at least 10 games per season over the next decade. That’s how transcendent a talent he is. However, though there are some promising pieces around Luck — wide receiver T.Y. Hilton has been a home run, and cornerback Vontae Davis is terrific — there are also noted limitations. Said one coach of the offensive line: “I think they are functional — not great. [The] QB is so elusive, which makes up for a lot.” The run defense must be decidedly better in 2015, but the current personnel just might not be good enough. That said, with Luck in tow, this team is still in good shape."
While Andrew Luck is no doubt a big reason why, the Colts still have surrounded him with a multitude weapons on the offensive side of the football. With T.Y. Hilton, Dwayne Allen, Coby Fleener, and Donte Moncrief already in the fold, the team added two highly regarded veterans in Frank Gore and Andre Johnson this offseason, as well as a promising rookie wideout in Phillip Dorsett to Luck’s now loaded arsenal.
There’s no question the defense could use an infusion of young talent overall, but as long as the team has Luck, they should remain one of the league’s top contending teams for the foreseeable future. The team will realistically only go as far as Luck can take them, but right now, it’s looking like that’s still pretty far all things considered.
