Andrew Luck Leading MVP Predictions

Andrew Luck is on a meteoric rise this offseason. He has been ranked a top player in the league and picking up endorsements like another QB who used to play for the Colts. Luck’s fresh off a season where he led the NFL in touchdown passes with 40 and, had he not turned the ball over so much, would have earned a few MVP votes last year.

Heading into 2015, his offense is even more stacked than it was last year. The Colts went out of their way to give Luck more toys than a spoiled only child. Andre Johnson, Frank Gore, and even the speedy rookie Phillip Dorsett were added to the team in the offseason, likely resulting in an evil laugh from the overly nice Luck.

With so much talent, it should be easy for Luck to top his 2014 totals in yardage and touchdowns. Frankly, anything less would be shocking.

With a great supporting cast, it isn’t surprising that Luck is starting to dominate early MVP predictions. Right now, it is basically a two-way race between him and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. Unfortunately for Rodgers, his chances took a hit when his top receiver Jordy Nelson went down with a torn ACL in a preseason game.

The NFL.com staff has given their MVP predictions and it was decidedly in Luck’s favor, as he took four of the six votes. I’d recommend actually watching the video, some great highlights and featuring Bob Lamey’s play-by-play.

Marc Sessler’s analysis of Luck has to make fans giddy”

"Luck has all the physical traits you want in a pro passer. He’s massive, mobile, seemingly impervious to punishment and lauded by his teachers and teammates as incredibly smart. He’s also the type of player who makes those around him better. We don’t often see quarterbacks develop at this rate, but Luck isn’t even near his peak."

Yes, we haven’t even see Luck reach his full potential and that has to be a terrifying thought for opponents (especially in the AFC South). We’re about to see a mobile version of Peyton Manning.

Most of the reasoning for Luck as the MVP is that: 1. his team will go the playoffs; and 2. that he’ll have gaudy numbers in the process. Stat projections are generally conservative, but they have Luck tossing 37 touchdowns right now and passing for another 4,500 yards.

Connor Orr is impressed by how Luck has handled all the pressure and accolades.

"Managing expectations is not easy, especially when your team is picked as a preseason favorite to make the Super Bowl, but Luck does so in incredible fashion. Buoyed by a breakthrough year from offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton, Luck leads the league in touchdown passes with his new high-octane offense."

The Colts have high expectations with this roster, and Luck will have every opportunity to be this years MVP. His improved tremendously every season and if the next step in his natural progression is cutting down turnovers, there will be no doubt that Luck ends up getting more than a few MVP votes.
