As one of the stars of training camp, Indianapolis Colts cornerback Jalil Brown finally made his 1st big play of the preseason.
That is, when he intercepted St. Louis Rams quarterback Sean Mannion late in the 3rd quarter of last night’s 24-14 victory:
While the Colts have the first 3 spots on the cornerback depth chart seemingly locked up with Vontae Davis, Greg Toler, and Darius Butler respectively, the 4th and 5th spots remain largely unsettled.
The team’s 3rd round pick D’Joun Smith figures to stick at one of those spots, but Brown’s big play yesterday helped stake his case for sticking on the team’s 53-man roster all together:
In training camp at Anderson, Indiana, Brown was simply a turnover machine, wreaking havoc in the Colts secondary with his exceptional coverage.
Still, the 5th-year veteran had his 1st actual taste of turnovers in gametime action, as he made a clean break on the ball in what was no doubt a great play in coverage for the interception.
In fact, following a strong training camp, one could make a compelling case that such an interception could’ve very well have earned Brown a roster spot going forward:
