According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, Indianapolis Colts defensive end Art Jones will be seeing a foot and ankle specialist following his MRI today, the results of which aren’t immediately known at this time:
Such a development doesn’t seem very encouraging regarding the availability of Jones going forward. The 6-year veteran left Saturday night’s game against the St. Louis Rams with 14:07 left in the 1st quarter and did not return to action:
However, here’s what we do know so far per NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport:
The good news is that Jones ankle injury that cost him 7 regular season games last season and hampered his overall effectiveness was to his right ankle. Yesterday’s injury was actually to his left ankle (as astutely pointed out by the Indy Star’s Zak Keefer), so this doesn’t appear to be the start of a chronic injury by any means:
Still, the listed 6’3″, 320 pound Jones has a chance to be one of the few difference-makers along the Colts defensive line. Having him healthy would go a long way toward shoring up the team’s run-stopping woes if nothing else.
