Colts Starters Will See Limited Action for Sunday’s Preseason Game
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said during Friday’s training camp practice that the team’s starters will likely only play a series or two depending on each individual player in what figures to be a case-by-case basis:
"“Everybody does it differently based on years, experience, and those types of things,” said Chuck Pagano at Friday’s training camp practice. “Yeah, but generally saying we’re going to try to get everybody that’s healthy, get them some playing time.”“Some guys will be less than others,” added Pagano. “Young guys will get a lot of playing time this first game. So what you’d like to do is, your first unit on offense and defense, whoever starts, you’d like to go out and play a series or two. Get some good snaps under your belt. Have some success. Build some confidence. Execute. Those types of things.”“Those guys will know well in advance how much they’re going to play and what’s expected of them,” remarked Pagano."
The younger players will likely play much more extensively to gain valuable experience, while the veterans will be much more limited as they’re simply looking to get back in actual game shape.
When asked if any player has already been ruled out because of injury, Pagano was mostly guarded in his update before mentioning shutdown cornerback Vontae Davis:
"“If I told you that, I’d have to kill you,” laughed Pagano. “There’s some guys that haven’t obviously practiced for a while that are doubtful.”“Vontae (Davis) is probably a guy that’s not going to play,” added Pagano. “There’s probably a couple of others. We’re going to sit down docs and trainers one last time and make sure we don’t throw anyone in there that hasn’t played and hadn’t practiced for a significant amount of time.”"
