EA Sports revealed its top cornerback ratings for Madden ’16, and the Indianapolis Colts Vontae Davis was unveiled as the 3rd best cornerback with a 95 overall rating.
Something that the Colts shutdown cornerback was no doubt excited about upon hearing the news:
Per the Madden official web site:
"VONTAE DAVIS (95 OVR)INDIANAPOLIS COLTS5’11, 207 POUNDSDavis is a shutdown corner with 97 Man Coverage, 94 Zone Coverage, and 98 Press. He also shines in run support, with 88 Speed and 88 Play Recognition."
Of course, Davis joins Andrew Luck, who’s also among the top rated players in this year’s Madden game. The latter was revealed as the 5th best quarterback in Madden earlier last week. Davis may have “gamer” bragging rights; however, as he bests Luck’s 94 overall rating by one point.
It’s well-earned by Davis too, as he was among the best cornerbacks in the game last season. While some of his cornerback contemporaries like Darrelle Revis and Richard Sherman are bigger household names, Davis is a shutdown cornerback in his own right:
"“Davis is coming off a season in which he was among one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks in coverage. Opposing quarterbacks were held to a dismal 38.8 passer rating when targeting the Colts shutdown cornerback, and he allowed the 2nd lowest completion rate among all cornerbacks at 43.7 (ProFootballFocus). Not to mention, the 7th-year pro also had 4 interceptions to go along with such impressive aforementioned numbers.”"
Not only was Davis just named to his 1st career Pro Bowl, but he was also ranked 59th on the NFL’s Top 100. It’s only fitting that he’s also rated as one of the Top 5 players at the cornerback position in Madden as well.
While Luck is clearly the best player on the Colts offense, there’s no question that Davis is conversely the best player on the team’s defense. He’s one of the truly elite defensive players in all of football right now.
For gaming fans, Madden is slated to hit shelves on August 25, 2015, and will be available on the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms. This year’s cover athlete is the New York Giants spectacular wideout Odell Beckham Jr., so be sure to be on the lookout.
