NFL.com: Andrew Luck Among Few QB’s Who’s Best on His Team
According to NFL.com’s Gil Brandt, the Indianapolis Colts are among one of the few teams in the NFL with a quarterback as their best player. Of course, the Colts have Andrew Luck as their franchise signal-caller, who’s already among one of the best quarterbacks in the game:
"Indianapolis Colts: Andrew LuckSecond-best player: T.Y. Hilton, WRIndianapolis upgraded its supporting cast, bringing in veterans like Frank Gore, Andre Johnson and Trent Cole and adding first-round pick Phillip Dorsett to the receiving corps, but Luck still basically means everything to the Colts, both on and off the field. Of course, this is nothing new for the team, which pretty much went right from the end of the Peyton Manning era to the beginning of Luck’s reign. Luck is a quiet superstar who prioritizes football above all else. This all-around athlete is trending firmly upward, getting progressively better each season; in 2014, he reached personal highs in completion rate (61.7 percent), yardage (4,761), yards per attempt (7.7), touchdown passes (40) and passer rating (96.5). I could see him surpassing Rodgers in a year or two, provided he stays on this trajectory."
Only 25 years old, Luck is not only the best young quarterback in football, but he’s also one of the truly elite players at his position. He’s coming off an impressive season in which he led the league with 40 touchdowns and carried his team to the AFC Championship game. Not to brag, but he’s quickly becoming a superstar in every facet of the game, and quite frankly, it’s hard to argue that he’s not the best player on the Colts.

Luck joins the likes of the Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers, San Diego Chargers Philip Rivers, New Orleans Saints Drew Brees, and Baltimore Ravens Joe Flacco, as the only quarterbacks who happen to be the best players on their respective teams. It’s worth noting that other elite quarterbacks like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Ben Roethlisberger were beat out (or tied) by allegedly superior players on each’s team.
Additionally, Brandt lists T.Y. Hilton as the 2nd best player on the Colts, who’s no doubt worthy of such a distinction. However, if it were me, I’d personally go with Vontae Davis.
Nothing against Hilton, but Davis is arguably a Top 3 player at his position as a shutdown cornerback, whereas Hilton is more like a Top 8 wideout. Both are coming off Pro Bowl seasons respectively; however, and are great players in their own right.
Regardless, Luck is no doubt the best player on the Colts and joins a handful of select few at quarterback, who can actually say the same thing on their team. Something that’s seemingly pretty cool.
