Colts LinkStorm: No Headlines, and That’s Good News

facebooktwitterreddit

The Indianapolis Colts have just four weeks left until they report to Anderson for training camp. So far, this time off has been uneventful for the Colts’ players, which is absolutely good news.

Late last week news broke that four players in the NFL were suspended. Most prominent among those players was tight end Antonio Gates who is now out four games for violating the performance-enhancing drug policy.

The Colts have had their share of off-field issues over the past few seasons and the obvious comparison with Gates is Robert Mathis (great season followed by a PED suspension).

The three other players suspended all fell under the substance abuse policy (likely marijuana). The good news for the Colts is that means they will miss facing Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson in Week 2. Richardson is one of the best players on a stacked New York defense.

Over at Colts.com we learn that single game tickets will go on sale on July 8 at 10 a.m. There will be a limited number of tickets available in these packages and they will be going fast.

Also at Colts.com, Kevin Bowen answers questions in his weekend mailbag. He discusses winning the AFC South again, weak points along both lines, and questions about the wide receiving corps.

Also answering questions this week is Mike Wells at ESPN. He has a two part mailbag for the holiday weekend. In the first installment, he talks best and worst case scenarios for the Colts this season. Wells also talks about Donte Moncrief‘s role and the possibility of Clayton Geathers starting at safety.

Part two of Wells’ mailbag covers the team making more moves before camp (which, yes, they will very likely do). He also talks about who will be backing up Frank Gore next season and if Zach Kerr has a shot at starting next year.

Also at ESPN, Paul Gutierrez talks about all the ex-49ers (who are still playing) and how they are fitting in with their new teams. We know well that Gore has made a “seamless” transition to the Colts and it certainly helps that he won’t have to carry the workload like he did for so many years in San Francisco.

At Bleacher/Report, Kyle Rodriguez has been hard at work analyzing the team. First, he discusses whether or not T.Y. Hilton has reached his ceiling as a receiver. It isn’t that Hilton has reached his potential, more that there won’t be enough targets to see his numbers go up next season, not that that is a bad thing.

Rodriguez breaks down the outside linebackers and gives his analysis of the the depth chart. There is a lot to digest in his thorough piece on this unit, but it looks like the team has a lot of talent at this particular position.

We’ll keep you up to date on all the news over the next month before camp.
