Who Will Lead the Colts in Interceptions in 2015?

In 2014, the Indianapolis Colts had a total of 12 interceptions during the regular season.

While some people may feel like that is a solid number, I do not think it is because we gave up 16 interceptions. The Colts had 4 different people haul in a pick during the regular season, but none were returned for a touchdown.

The player that led the Colts in interceptions last season was none other than Pro Bowl safety Mike Adams. Adams hauled in 5 interceptions throughout the season with shutdown cornerback Vontae Davis nipping at his heels with 4. The other two Colts to grab an interception were Greg Toler with 2, and Josh Gordy with 1.

According to Sportingcharts.com, the Colts Ranked 24 out of the 32 teams in interceptions. While interceptions is not a huge stat to be concerned about, I would love to see this stat increase this next season because an interception can be such a game changer. I think it is safe to assume that it will be someone in the secondary this year that will lead the team in interceptions, so let’s look at the projected starters current stats in that category:

Mike Adams has had a total of 18 interceptions in 11 NFL seasons. 2014 was his most productive year with 5 total.

Vontae Davis has a whopping 17 interceptions in just 6 seasons. I believe this is a great number to see in that category with Davis, matching the number that Adams has had in just half the amount of time.

Dwight Lowery also has a decent number of interceptions with 16 interceptions in 7 NFL seasons. Two of those seasons he only played 9 and 3 games in those respective seasons. I think Lowery definitely shows a lot of promise at the safety position opposite of Adams.

Greg Toler is projected to start opposite of Vontae Davis, and he has hauled in 8 interceptions in 5 seasons.

Looking ahead to this coming season I believe that the stat line for interceptions will look like this:

Vontae Davis 6

Mike Adams 4

Dwight Lowery 3

Greg Toler 1

Winner: Vontae Davis

This may be a bold prediction because Davis has yet to pull in more than 4 interceptions in a season. However, I believe that Vontae is really emerging as one of the top corners, in my opinion top 5 in the league. I think he’s poised for another huge season, and I could definitely see him pulling this off.

There may be a few other people who could haul in a pick such as; Darius Butler, maybe a linebacker, or maybe even D’Joun Smith (I hope). But I think Vontae Davis is going to lead the Colts in Interception, and be an absolute force to be reckoned with in the secondary. Quarterbacks will not even attempt to throw his way this season #NOFLYZONE
