Andrew Luck on Frank Gore: ‘He’s a Stud’
According to Kevin Bowen of Colts.com, freshly signed Indianapolis Colts running back Frank Gore has already impressed his teammates with his practice habits and work ethic. If anyone expected the future Hall of Fame running back to just “take it easy” in what appears to his last stop in the NFL, they were sadly mistaken.
The 32 year old running back likes to train with the Colts younger running backs to “keep himself honest” and is generally the one leading the Colts young running back group:
"“In the offseason, I like to train with younger guys to keep myself honest,” said. Gore. “Me training with younger guys, if I’m looking better then them, I know that I should have a great shot to have a great year.”"
However, his strong training regimen has drawn the admiration of several of his teammates in the process, including new teammate and longtime friend Andre Johnson, who’s a future Hall of Famer in his own right:
"“If you are able to train with him and watch him work, the guy works his butt off,” said Andre Johnson. “That’s why he’s been able to do what he’s done in this league for a long time. I expect big things out of him.”"
Perhaps the highest praise came from his new quarterback in Andrew Luck though, the player who’s widely expected to benefit the most from Gore’s presence in the backfield. Luck has already been impressed with Gore, calling him “a stud”:
"“He’s a stud,” said Luck of Gore. “He takes care of his body. You can tell the way he works. He practices hard every day. He doesn’t take plays off, and he’s a heck of a football player.”“For me, watching him, it’s just the protections and knowing who’s coming from where, reading the tilt of the safeties, the nickel, how he plays, body language,” added Luck. “He’s picked up on a bunch of stuff that guys, who’ve been here for three years, find so hard.”"
Gore’s one of those rare players who practices just as hard as he plays. His strong training habits are a testament to his longevity, as the 11-year veteran running back is coming off yet another 1,000 yard season. He’s rushed for over 1,000 yards in 8 of his 10 seasons in the NFL, and if the 32 year old has his way, he’ll have another one with the Colts.
This isn’t Gore’s intended swan song after all, it’s his Super Bowl song.
