Tyler Varga: Running Back/Fullback, Yale

At 5’11 and 222 pounds of chiseled muscle, Tyler Varga had a highly decorated career with the Bulldogs, as he had 1,423 rushing yards and 26 total touchdowns (22 rushing) last season and was one of the school’s all-time leading rushers. He was named a First-Team All-American and received All-Ivy League honors.

However, what’s most intriguing about Varga is his versatility at the NFL level with his ability to play both running back and fullback due to his exceptional ability to both run and block:

Varga delivered several punishing blocks at the Senior Bowl, including one that led to a touchdown:

As a whole, he largely impressed at his Senior Bowl showing:

The Colts don’t typically utilize a true fullback, as the team has largely played Dwayne Allen in that role when healthy or sometimes, Jack Doyle to spell him. However, Varga is a useful player to have on the team’s active roster because of his “jack-of-all trades” game. He can not only provide the Colts with additional backfield depth at either running back or fullback, but he could be a strong asset in special teams due to his versatility.

For their last players to make the roster, teams are often looking at players that can be key special teams contributors, and Varga figures to provide that right away in theory.
