As the next step of their offseason, the Indianapolis Colts will start their 9 week Organized Team Activities (OTA’s) this Monday on May 18th at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center.

Per Colts.com’s Kevin Bowen, the team’s ten session offseason program will be divided into 3 phases:

"The Colts’ 10 OTA sessions will start the week of May 18.A reminder that, under the new CBA, the offseason program is divided up into three phases over the course of nine weeks.Phase One: Consists of the first two weeks of the program with activities limited to strength and conditioning and physical rehabilitation only. Phase Two: Consists of the next three weeks of the program. On-field workouts may include individual player instruction and drills as well as team practice conducted on a “separates” basis. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted. Phase Three: Consists of the next four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, or “OTAs”. No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted."

While the team will be concluding Phase II of their offseason program shortly, next week’s OTA’s provide another great opportunity for players to get acclimated with one another, especially for some of the fresh faces. Not only do the players get to know one another better, but they are also able to get more familiar with their coaches, play calls, and schemes. Not to mention, get in better overall football shape.

Some may say that this is the tamest part of the NFL’s calendar year and perhaps rightfully so; however, this is the part of the offseason where a team lays its foundation for the road that lies ahead. If coaches and players put in the required work and time in early, it will reap benefits throughout the course of the season, especially for a team like the Colts with Super Bowl aspirations.
