New Colts Linebacker Nate Irving Ready to Make Impact
One of the Indianapolis Colts best off season additions was inside linebacker Nate Irving. Irving a third round pick in the 2010 draft has spent his entire career in Denver until now.
While in college at NC State, Irving broke the single game record for tackles for loss. He brings a reputation of a run stopper to the Colts defense. Irving will most certainly compete for a starting spot this season.
Nate Irving will bring his hard nose style to the Colts defense which will help give that extra edge. Most certainly noted will be his ability to stop runners in the backfield. Irving choose the Colts in his first run at free agency.
I was able to talk to him recently and here’s what he had to say:
Can you tell me what led to you choosing the Colts?
“It was a place that made me feel wanted. I visited with the coaches and had a good time plus the opportunity to win was great.”
The Colts are really close just a game away from the big dance last year, what do you think can take the team to the next step?
“That was last year. Every year teams face different forms of adversity. We will prepare and work hard and worry about what we can control.”
You have any personal goals for the upcoming season?
“Just to be everything I know I can and everything the organization needs me to be.”

I know you were in Denver to start your career, is it gonna be weird playing against the team that drafted you?
“No I don’t think so. I’m fortunate for them to have given me the opportunity but that’s the nature of the business.”
“Not everyone gets to play for the team that drafted them for their whole career.”
Thanks Nate I really appreciate the time man, this has to be the longest awaited off season ever, can’t wait to watch you play for us
“No problem. Glad I could help.”
There’s no doubt that heading into the offseason that inside linebacker was a position of need for the Colts. They addressed it by bringing in Irving. Irving is still only 26 so he’s just hitting his stride. I really think the Colts got a steal on this guy. All of Colts nation should be excited to see what Irving will bring to the table.
