The Indianapolis Colts made a minor roster move today, as the team signed Tennessee-Martin running back Abou Toure and waived outside linebacker Terrell Hartsfield in a corresponding move.
The 6’2″, 230 pound Toure is a big-bodied running back that ran for 1,138 rushing yards on 199 carries (5.7 ypg) and 8 touchdowns for the Skyhawks last season. He’ll compete with other rookies like the Colts 6th round pick in Josh Robinson, as well as Yale’s Tyler Varga (UDFA) for a spot lower on the Colts running back depth chart. If nothing else, he could be worth a possible practice squad stash for the team later on.
Toure was brought in for a tryout earlier this week, as part of the team’s rookie mini-camp, and it’s clear that the Colts liked enough of what they saw of him to ink the former Skyhawk to an undrafted rookie deal.
For Hartsfield, it’s tough to see a player waived from the team so early in the team’s rookie evaluation process, but that’s the nature of the business that is the NFL. The former Bearcat recorded 38 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and 9 sacks last season for Cincinnati. Hopefully, he’ll be able to land on his feet elsewhere and continue his professional football career.
