Colts Second Year Hidden Gem Zach Kerr
In his second year with the Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Zach Kerr looks to increase his role. Kerr in his rookie season made the most of his opportunities.
An undrafted free agent out of Delaware, Kerr was a look into the future for the Colts. In 12 games as a rookie Kerr recorded 3 sacks from the interior. Interior pass rush was a problem for the Colts last year.
In 2015 look for Kerr to provide that skill to help sure up the interior. I recently had a conversation with Kerr about the upcoming season via Twitter DM. Here’s what he had to say:
Tell me what its like in year two, what are the differences you’ve seen so far?
Just the work ethic really. I have somewhat of an idea what I need to improve on and now I’m just doing it.
What are your personal goals for this year?
Just to get better. I haven’t set the goals for numbers yet, but I want to be more consistent.
I’ve noticed that the first name out of the coaches and GM Ryan Grigson’s mouth when asked about the front seven is your name. Is that any added pressure or motivation for you? They seem very confident in your abilities.
It’s always pressure, until I’m satisfied with myself I will always feel pressured when it comes to football. But that’s a good thing. Because pressure makes or breaks a situation. I’ve been there my whole life, I’ll do my best to make them more confident.
Is the Patriot game in Week 6 something that’s circled on the schedule?
We are just worried about OTA (organized team activities) right now. One day at a time is the process.
The Colts are only in OTAs, but you can tell this is a focused group.

A lot of focus will be on the defensive line. Having Kerr and his pass rush ability should help the Colts with the abundance of pocket passers on the upcoming schedule. Kerr has a very high potential ceiling.
Kerr is determined to take his game to the next level. The Colts may have the interior pass rusher they need to pair with all the great edge rushers. I’m interested to see if Kerr will see a lot of third down situations. Given the fact he had three sacks in limited situations. Number 94 will be fun to watch in 2015. We also have the same taste in boxing so I’ll be routing for Zach come next season.
