Colts and Pep Hamilton at IU’s Tevin Coleman’s Pro Day

The Indianapolis Colts are one of the teams in attendance for Indiana University’s Pro Day, where running back Tevin Coleman will be participating in drills. The 5’11, 206 pound Coleman had an impressive season last year for the Hoosiers, in which he rushed for 2,036 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns on 270 carries, for a whopping 7.5 ypc average.

This was despite playing on an injured toe, one that eventually required surgery after Indiana’s season ended. Because of the injury, Coleman was still rehabilitating and was unable to participate in drills during February’s NFL Combine. However, it looks like he’ll finally be able to show what he can do in front of scouts today.

For the Colts, it’s not just any scout; however, as their offensive coordinator in Pep Hamilton is specifically in attendance for today’s IU Pro Day and perhaps looking to see how the dynamic Coleman could potentially fit into his offensive system:

Coleman’s recorded forty-time will be key, as teams will want to know whether he’s fully recovered from his significant toe injury and that there are no lingering effects. Scouts do worry about Coleman’s upright running style and whether it will lead to a successful long-term career at running back, but he remains one of the most explosive running backs in this year’s NFL Draft.

Coleman put up some really impressive numbers on a lackluster Indiana team, despite battling an injury. He’s currently projected to go in Round 2-3 of this year’s NFL Draft, but could possibly be available when the Colts draft late in Round 2.

While the team isn’t in desperate need of a running back as they once were before the high-profile free agent addition of longtime 49ers standout Frank Gore, the Colts could still use a long-term answer at the position as Gore is set to turn 32 years old in May.

In what is shaping up to be a loaded running back class, that young running back has a chance to be Tevin Coleman, much to the delight of Hoosier fans, especially if he can “wow” at his Pro Day today.

Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson already said at this year’s NFL Combine that he has no plans to overlook any hometown or local products and will leave no stone unturned:

"“We will exhaust you know every player, especially I always tell the guys we better not miss in our backyard, better not miss in our backyard,” said Grigson."
