Colts vs Saints: Fantasy Start ‘Em or Sit ‘Em

facebooktwitterreddit

The week seven match-up between the Colts and Saints is a fantasy owners dream. Two tantalizingly horrendous secondaries, and two dynamo quarterbacks, why wouldn’t owners be salivating? Besides the obvious one’s, let’s look at who you should start, who you should sit, and who you should maybe pick-up from both teams.

Start ‘Em

Donte Moncrief– Moncrief has caught a touchdown pass in four of the Colts’ six games, subsequently leading the team. He is almost a better fantasy option than T.Y. Hilton, as it seems that Andrew Luck looks Moncrief’s way more in the red zone. Moncrief has established himself as Luck’s favorite target so far this season as Hilton continues to be covered by the opposing team’s best cornerback. With a Saints secondary that has allowed 11 receiving touchdowns so far this season, that makes Donte a reliable WR2 this week.

Frank Gore– This game is being projected as a shootout between Luck and Brees. While that is a definite possibility, Gore gets lost in the mix. The Saints defense will look to stop Andrew Luck and the Colts receivers, more so than Gore. It is also important to note that the Saints are allowing 138 yards per game to opposing running backs, the third worst in the league. Gore is an easy play and we could easily see a 115+ yard performance from him on Sunday.

Brandin Cooks–  Cooks poses a very big problem for the Colts secondary, as he is more of a possession receiver, rather than a big play guy. We have seen, especially last week, that the Colts are completely unable to cover short routes underneath the safeties. Drew Brees is going to absolutely, positively exploit that weakness on Sunday, and it could make for a nice game from Cooks.

Sit ‘Em

Coby Fleener– After his terrific fantasy season last year, Fleener was a deep sleeper in most drafts this season. It is evident that Fleener(or Dwayne Allen for that matter) have no real fantasy relevance this season. Fleener has not seen near as many targets from Andrew Luck, compared to last season at least. Also Fleener’s one good fantasy game this season(83 yards, TD) came with Matt Hasselbeck under center. It’s hard to trust a tight end when they are so inconsistent fantasy wise, for your tight end, I’d look elsewhere.

Mark Ingram– Fantasy owners could be slightly misled by Ingram’s production, since he mainly grabs points via red zone touchdowns. He also had yet to eclipse 80 rushing yards in the Saints’ six games this season. The Colts rush defense is in middle of the pack in terms of rush yards allowed(112 yards per game), but they have shown promise against big name backs so far this season. This could spell trouble for Ingram come Sunday.

Pick ‘Em Up

Ahmad Bradshaw– Sure Bradshaw didn’t see the field a whole lot against New England, but don’t forget that Bradshaw hasn’t played since Week 10 of last season either. The intriguing thing about Bradshaw is his receiving ability out of the backfield. Before his injury last season, Bradshaw caught six touchdown passes. This Sunday he could be a very interesting third down receiving running back, and  at most you could put him at your flex position. According to ESPN only 8.5 percent of owners have him, so give him a shot if you’re in a deeper league.

Willie Snead– Snead was the hot waiver wire pick-up two weeks ago after his 141 yard performance versus the Eagles. However, that was his only game where he went over 100 yards receiving, and he only has one receiving touchdown on the season. That being said, Snead is a possession receiver, much like Brandin Cooks, but he also has the speed to make a big play. Again with the Colts secondary unable to cover over the middle, Snead could feast on Sunday as well. In ESPN league’s he’s only owned by roughly 66 percent of owners, so he’s if he’s available, get him now!

May the fantasy odds forever be in your favor this Sunday…
