Colts safety Mike Adams was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his two interception performance against the Houston Texans last Thursday night. It is the first Player of the Week award for Adams of his career.

Adams two interceptions basically opened and closed the game on Thursday. His first interception came on the opening drive of the game after Houston had driven into the red zone. A tipped pass ended up in Adams’ hands and he returned it 38 yards to set up a Colts field goal.

His second interception came on the Texans final drive of the game. Just inside the two minute warning, and on the Colts side of the field with a seven point lead, Brian Hoyer felt pressure from Erik Walden before throwing up a duck that was easily snatched out of the air by Adams. The Colts ran out the clock and earned their third straight win.

The 34-year old safety wasn’t the only elder veteran to make plays last week either. The 34-year old Andre Johnson had two touchdowns against his former team. Frank Gore, 32, had 98 yards rushing and a touchdown. Matt Hasselbeck, at 40 and fighting a bacterial infection, threw a pair of touchdowns and didn’t turn the ball over. And the oldest player in the league, Adam Vinatieri at 42, drilled a pair of field goals. All of that on just three days rest for the “old men” of the team.

Adams has had a career revival while in Indianapolis. Last season he led the NFL in takeaways, earning him his first Pro Bowl honors and now the Defensive Player of the Week. Adams originally signed a one-year deal with the Colts, but his strong 2014 campaign led to a two-year deal worth nearly $5 million.
