Ex-49ers CB Shareece Wright Visits Colts

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Shareece Wright visited the Indianapolis Colts on Monday:

"“On Saturday, cornerback Shareece Wrightgot what he wanted — his walking papers from the 49ers. On Monday, his effort to find a new team began,” writes Florio.“Per a league source, Wright visited the Colts.”“It was a visit, not a workout. But Wright presumably doesn’t need to work out for anyone. His agents, Synergy Sports International, has said via Twitter that seven teams are interested in Wright.”"

The 5th-year veteran signed a 1-year, $1.5 million contract with the 49ers this past offseason, but was inactive for the team’s first 4 games before being granted his release this weekend.

Originally a 3rd round pick of the San Diego Chargers in the 2011 NFL Draft, Wright had played his prior 4 seasons with the Bolts, making 27 career starts. Last year, he started in 14 games for the Chargers, recording 60 tackles and 9 passes deflected.

Having had Greg Toler and Darius Butler return in recent games, the Colts aren’t nearly as depleted at cornerback anymore as was the case earlier in the season. However, Wright could arguably be an upgrade over cornerbacks lower on the depth chart such as Shaun Prater and Josh Thomas when push comes to shove.

At the very least, the team was clearly interested in kicking the tires on Wright to see if he was a possible upgrade or at least a possible down the road injury replacement.

Still, it appears that Wright left the Colts without an inked contract, so it doesn’t appear that his signing is imminent. He’ll likely explore his other options elsewhere.

UPDATE (9:48 PM): Sounds like Wright signed with the Baltimore Ravens, who desperately needed cornerback help:
