Vontae Davis is PFF’s Highest Rated CB Under New System
According to ProFootballFocus (PFF), Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis is the highest rated cornerback in the NFL heading into this season based on their newly implemented rating system that now uses a 0-100 scale:
"“If you look at our list of the top 10 cornerbacks in the NFL using our new PFF rating system, you’ll see the Colts’ Vontae Davis sitting in the No. 1 spot with a 93.7, ahead of Chris Harris Jr., Richard Sherman and the rest of the chasing pack,” writes Sam Monson of PFF."
Specifically, it’s worth noting that Davis’ overall grade of 93.7 edged out the aforementioned Harris’s 91.1 and Sherman’s 90.3 grades respectively. Two defenders, who are also highly regarded among the league’s best at the cornerback position. It’s worth noting that a 90-100 in PFF’s new rating scale correlates to a “Superstar”, which Davis no doubt is for the Colts.

It’s a bit different than Davis’ original PFF advanced grade at season’s end, where he received a +21.0 overall grade, and trailed just Harris’ 28.4 overall grade among all cornerbacks.
However, whatever the rating scale may be, Davis is clearly one of of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.
Opposing quarterbacks were held to a dismal 38.8 passer rating when targeting the Colts shutdown cornerback last season, having impressively never surrendered a touchdown in coverage, and he allowed the 2nd lowest completion rate among all cornerbacks at 43.7 (PFF). Not to mention, the 7th-year pro also had 4 interceptions to go along with such impressive aforementioned numbers.
Just as impressive was Davis tackling, as he was tied for the fewest amount of missed tackles among all cornerbacks with only 2 missed tackles last season. Simply put, Davis is a tackling machine.
His overall stellar play was rewarded, as Davis was named to his 1st career Pro Bowl appearance and was even named #59th in the NFL’s Top 100. Simply put, it’s great that one of the league’s best shutdown cornerbacks is finally receiving his well-earned recognition from the advanced statistics, coaches, peers, and fans alike.
