Colts Castonzo Named to NFL.com’s All-Underrated Team

Per NFL.com Media Analyst Evan Harrison, Indianapolis Colts starting left tackle Anthony Castonzo may be unheralded, but he’s certainly not under-appreciated. The 5th-year pro was named to NFL.com’s “All-Underrated Team” due to his exceptional, yet seemingly quiet play last season:

"“How Castonzo has allowed just six sacks over the last two years is anyone’s guess, considering the enormous amount of pass attempts (1,243) the Colts have racked up during that time. Castonzo played the most snaps among tackles last year and gave up all of two sacks.”"

While he’s often overlooked, Castonzo is one of the best players on the Colts. The former 2011 first round pick hasn’t missed a start for the team in the past 3 seasons and played in all 1,190 of the team’s offensive snaps last season, as the undisputed anchor of the Colts offensive line. The only Colts offensive lineman to do so.

The fact that he only gave up 2 sacks is not only incredibly impressive, but he’s also charged with the vastly important task of protecting the Colts’ franchise in Andrew Luck‘s well being by blocking his blindside.

Quite frankly, it’s not surprising that Castonzo is on this all-underrated team because he doesn’t draw the headlines like some of his mainstream offensive counterparts.

Yet, you don’t want to notice your left tackle out there for the most part because that means he’s typically messing up. That’s clearly why Castonzo continuously flies under the radar because he rarely make mistakes and is a highly effective blocker, especially in pass blocking. It’s a big reason as to why he’s among the best left tackles in the game.

When making the case for the most valuable players on the Colts, there’s clearly Luck at #1, but Castonzo is right up there with him along with presumably shutdown cornerback Vontae Davis. He may be underrated in the national media, but the Colts clearly realize that Castonzo is one of the most indispensable players on their team.

If nothing else, he’s a great dancer.
