Colts Waive Wideout Josh Lenz
The Indianapolis Colts announced that they have made a roster move, as the team released wideout Josh Lenz today. Per the team’s official press release:
"“The Indianapolis Colts today waived wide receiver Josh Lenz.Lenz spent a majority of the last two seasons on the Colts practice squad after signing with the team as a free agent on November 11, 2013. He was elevated to the active roster for the 2013 AFC Divisional Playoff game against New England, but did not play. Lenz signed a reserve/future contract with the team on January 19, 2015.”"
Having spent largely the past two seasons on the team’s practice squad, Lenz was additional organizational depth for the Colts at wideout. However, he never appeared in a game for the team over that time span.

The 6’0″, 194 Lenz was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa State by the Chicago Bears in 2013, followed by a brief stint with the Seattle Seahawks practice squad, before eventually ending up on the Colts practice squad in November of that same year.
With the team having already added wideouts like Andre Johnson, Phillip Dorsett, and Duron Carter this offseason, Lenz was an incredible longshot to make the Colts 53-man roster in what’s shaping up to be a loaded group of wideouts. The Colts are already 5 deep at wideout, even more, especially when factoring in that Griff Whalen will also be competing for a roster spot at wide receiver.
Unfortunately, Lenz was the odd man out, and it appears the Colts may simply be trying to give him a headstart to latch on elsewhere with so many competent bodies already on their roster at wideout. It’s worth noting that this move opens up a spot on the 90-man roster, although it has yet to be announced who may be replacing Lenz’s spot at this time.
