Colts Place Aaron Morgan on Reserve/Retired List

The Indianapolis Colts announced today that they have placed outside linebacker Aaron Morgan on the Reserve/Retired list. The team originally signed Morgan to a futures contract in 2013; however, he never played a snap for the team after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in early training camp of last season.

It comes as a bit of a surprise considering that Steve Andress of Colts.com just had Morgan as one of his offseason sleepers for the team and even included a quote by General Manager Ryan Grigson giving the 26-year old outside linebacker high praise:

"“He had one practice. He came in on a December workout and impressed us so much we signed him on a (Reserve/Future) contract (on December 31, 2013),” said Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson at the NFL Annual Meeting in Arizona in March. “When he had that one practice and hurt his shoulder, he did enough in that one practice for us to say, ‘We’re hanging on to this guy.’”“He was lights out. He was lights out. In a 9-on-7 period, playing with a bad shoulder, he opened a lot of eyes with how he played,” Grigson added about Morgan’s one practice last training camp. “He had a hellacious day that day.”"

However, it looks as though the former Louisiana-Monroe standout will never get a chance to play a meaningful snap for the Colts, as his career looks to be in serious jeopardy for presumed medical concerns.

Morgan was originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2010, where he appeared in 11 games for the Jaguars over the next two seasons. After being cut during 2012, he resurfaced with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, appearing in 7 games but was out of the league in 2013. The 6’4, 250 pound outside linebacker finished his career with 6 career tackles in 2 played NFL seasons.
