No Colts, But Coleman Has Scheduled Visits

According to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun, Indiana University running back Tevin Coleman will be making his team visits, but he may not be visiting with the Indianapolis Colts this time around:

Instead, having already visited the Detroit Lions, Coleman will be visiting the Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, and Arizona Cardinals at least as of now, ahead of his scheduled April 15th pro day workout. It’s worth noting that Coleman already met with the Colts during the NFL Combine, so it’s probably not too prudent to read too far into the lines here.

Still, with recently signed former San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore already in the fold, the Colts need for a starting caliber running back may not be as desperate as it once was. As it stands, Coleman is projected to be a Round 2-3 pick in this year’s NFL Draft and the Colts may have ultimately more pressing needs to fill, particularly on the defensive side of the football.

However, Frank Gore is set to turn 32 years old in May and is more of an immediate answer at the position, rather than a long-term solution. In a running back draft class that is loaded with running back talent, the Colts could look to find his successor at the position, while also keeping Gore fresher during the course of the regular season.

For Coleman, he’ll look to build upon what was an impressive collegiate career with the Indiana Hoosiers:

"He [Coleman] rushed for a school-record 2,036 yards, had four games of 200 yards or more and had eight touchdown runs of 60 yards or longer. He finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy balloting. His nickname is “Rock.”"

It’s worth noting that Coleman didn’t participate in this year’s NFL Combine, as he’s still rehabbing from a toe and foot injury that required surgery. However, many teams are anxiously awaiting his workout results from his upcoming April 15th pro day workout, maybe even the Colts.
