The Indianapolis Colts are in Foxboro, Massachusetts to take on an old rival: the New England Patriots. While the Patriots are a far cry from their glory days with Tom Brady, the Colts could have a tough game ahead of them, with their offense utterly decimated by injury.
Friday's final injury report had numerous key players as already being ruled out: Tanor Bortolini, who has been filling in for the injured Ryan Kelly at center, two wide receivers (Josh Downs and Ashton Dulin), and Braden Smith. This is a huge blow for Indianapolis, as quarterback Anthony Richardson struggled to pull the offense to a win last week, with constant dropped balls and an under-performing offensive line. This many injuries doesn't bode well for the Colts heading into Week 13, and it's a must-win game if the Colts want to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Thankfully, one player listed as questionable on the injury report will be playing today, and that's wide receiver Alec Pierce.
Pierce has been a huge playmaker this season, and seems to be building a good chemistry with Richardson. This season, he's made 27 catches for an incredible 600+ yards, and the Colts will be looking to him this week even more than usual. With both Downs and Dulin out, Pierce will need to be at his absolute best.
In addition to Pierce, the Colts will be relying on Michael Pittman, Jr. and rookie Adonai Mitchell. They also elevated Laquon Treadwell from the practice squad to give them more depth at wide receiver.
Between Richardson and the Patriots' Drake Maye, this will be a battle between two of the NFL's youngest quarterbacks. The Patriots are currently 22nd in the NFL in passing yards allowed, which will hopefully give Richardson and Pierce a good chance to connect on some of the explosive plays they've become known for, and keep the Colts' playoff hopes alive.
Will Alec Pierce play in Week 13 against the Patriots?
The Colts are down multiple wide receivers this week.
