Though Indianapolis Colts fans may not have had much fear struck into them by the Miami Dolphins in their season opener in 2025, even the most shortsighted Colts fan remembers how dominant a player Tyreek Hill was in his prime.
The Colts are in dire need of a third wide receiver to complement the duo of Alec Pierce and Josh Downs. Ashton Dulin can be a fun player at times, and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine has shown flashes in the past before his disappointing 2025 season. Still, a true talent on the cheap to solidify this Colts offense could go a long way in helping Daniel Jones return to form after his torn Achilles.
Tyreek Hill, with many people around the league not knowing how he might recover from a gruesome dislocated knee and torn ACL combination, is an unknown commodity.

A recovery from the injury and return to form may be in the cards for Hill, and it's just as possible that he's simply over the hill. Unfortunately, a recent update on the star wide receiver's injury may bar a potential Colts 2026 signing from being rumored before any talk has even started.
Hill posted a workout video to his YouTube account recently, and in it he detailed his injury progress. He mentioned that he still has no power in his left leg, but that he's already far ahead of where doctors initially theorized.
The star WR also said that doctors told him that he "might not be able to walk again" when he first suffered the injury. It's still unclear whether Hill will be able to play in the NFL in 2026, but he also said that the "timeline looking real good right now".
Of course, it's impossible to gauge how true Hill's commentary is right now. After all, it's in his own best interest to prop up his perceived value around the league. The hard truth is, though, that Hill is already 32 years old. His superpower was his twitchiness and his lightning speed.
If the injury he suffered is truly as bad as it seemed, it may be that Hill will never recover the speed and first step that he had in his prime, and a Tyreek Hill without his superpower simply isn't a star anymore.
The Colts are fairly thin past Josh Downs and Alec Pierce, but while Tyreek Hill would bring the value of his name to the wide receiver corps, he might simply not be the caliber of player worth a WR3 spot anymore. That is, if he's able to suit up at all this year.
The Colts are better off shopping in the bargain bin for a healthy WR3 than overpaying for a big name that just doesn't bring the same value anymore. Chris Ballard needs to be smart with his money after paying out such huge sums to Daniel Jones and Alec Pierce, and as perfect as it might seem initially, bringing in Tyreek Hill would not be a smart move.
