This surprising Anthony Richardson fit might be too perfect to ignore

You know what? That just might work...

While it appears more and more likely that the Indianapolis Colts and Anthony Richardson might have to stick it out together a bit longer, eventually, the two will part ways. It's clear that it's not going to work out for Richardson in Indy, and one would think another team would potentially be interested in adding the former No. 4 overall pick.

One team that could make sense is the Cleveland Browns, a team known for its instability at the quarterback spot. So, why then would they want to target Richardson of all available options?

Well, Ernesto Cova of Dawg Pound Daily, FanSided's site dedicated to all things Cleveland Browns, dove into that very question. The Browns could seem like a confusing landing spot for Richardson, given that they already have a quarterback battle between Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson, but the move wouldn't necessarily have to happen now.

Cova even says that the Browns' targeting Richardson could make sense, but it'd have to be when the timing is right. He said that trading for the former Florida Gator wouldn't make much sense, but the Browns should keep an eye on him next offseason.

"That's not to say that the Browns should have gone all-in to trade for him. Acquiring Richardson would have likely forced the Browns to pick up his fifth-year option, which would have been over $22 million fully guaranteed, per Spotrac.

That said, he's definitely a reclamation project to consider as a free agent. The Browns clearly value athletic upside at quarterback, like sixth-round rookie Taylen Green. So why not do the same with, potentially, the NFL's next Cam Newton? Even if it's just for depth, it makes sense.

Dillon Gabriel may not be on the team to start the season, and Green may not make the roster in 2027, at least not as a quarterback. Watson's release has long been scheduled for March of 2027, and the jury is still out on Sanders.

With a new-look QB room that may include a rookie, why not roll the dice on Richardson?"

Honestly, this isn't a bad idea. The Browns wouldn't be interested in taking in Richardson this year, given that they have Sanders and Watson fighting it out for the QB1 spot. If neither signal-caller plays well in 2026, however, the Browns will be right back where they've frequently found themselves, which is in quarterback purgatory.

If that's the scenario they find themselves in, gambling on Richardson might not be the worst idea. He was a top-five pick for a reason, and while he hasn't panned out in Indianapolis, it makes sense why another team might be interested in taking a flier on him.
