After a week of speculation and panic, the Indianapolis Colts solved one of their biggest pre-training camp problems. They finally signed their second round draft pick, defensive end JT Tuimoloau.
At the beginning of the week, Tuimoloau - along with the vast majority of other second-rounders - were still unsigned. The Chargers' Tre Harris even took enough of a hard line to become an official training camp holdout. The problem for the second round picks was that their contracts, unlike first round picks, are not guaranteed.
First round picks have their contracts fully guaranteed, which means the Colts' first round pick - tight end Tyler Warren - will see all of the $20.96 million he signed for. But second round picks only see their first two years guaranteed, and this year, second round picks evidently wanted more.
One of the first dominoes to fall was Alfred Collins, with the San Francisco 49ers, coming to a deal yesterday. That gave a blueprint for the Colts, and the rest of the league, to follow. And just in time, Tuimoloau and the Colts finally have an agreement ironed out. Details, so far, are not known, but it's a good sign with training camp starting in less than a week.

Rookies are required to report for training camp on July 21st, with the first practice held on July 23rd. And rookies cannot attend if their contract is not yet signed. So this will be a huge relief for Indianapolis, to have this weight lifted.
Tuimoloau will be playing alongside DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart, with training camp the first opportunity to see how he will fit in to the Colts' defense. Tuimoloau is known to be a strong, disruptive athlete, able to collapse the pocket, and stop the run. As a versatile athlete, it's assumed that he will fit in well with Lou Anarumo's new defensive scheme, but it would have been a lot tougher without spending some time in training camp first - and thankfully, now, he's going to have that opportunity. It will make training camp even more exciting for fans now to see how Anarumo's new scheme is going to look.
