Rank #3: Cornerback
The Colts' front office did a great job with addressing this position in the offseason with the signing of Charvarius Ward. This is the first time this franchise has had (arguably) a true CB1 since Stephon Gilmore. While Ward is not the answer to all the problems, he is a significant upgrade from what they had. This is no shot at Jaylon Jones, but Ward is a complete defensive back, with both skill and postseason experience. Jones and Ward should be the outside starters, with competition from Sam Womack and JuJu Brents.
Shavon Revel Jr/East Carolina - While I don’t think this franchise will take a DB in round one anymore, they could look for one early in Day Two. Revel is recovering from an ACL injury, and will need to have his medicals confirmed before they really think about this. He has the size and athleticism to compete in the league, but it will come down to the recovery of his knee injury. I stressed the word competition again, and Revel would arguably challenge Juju Brents for his roster spot if he is healthy, as Brents evidently cannot stay on the field.
Rank #4: Safety
The Colts signed Cam Bynum to help shore up this part of the secondary. While that (likely) moves them out of the Malaki Starks sweepstakes, they will likely look to grab another safety in the draft. Bynum and Nick Cross will start, but the depth has been inconsistent.
Jaylen Reed/Penn State - We have discussed Alabama Safety Malachi Moore for this selection, but if they wanted go in a different direction, Reed could be a possibility. He is not as polished of a prospect as Moore, but still can make an NFL roster. Reed struggles in single safety looks, but with the focus of the Anarumo defense being the secondary, he can grow into his role.
