Updated Colts QB depth chart after signing Joe Flacco
The Indianapolis Colts found their backup quarterback for the 2024 season, inking Joe Flacco to a one-year deal, per Adam Schefter. Flacco was out of the league for the first part of the 2023 season but signed with the Cleveland Browns toward the end of the season after they lost Deshaun Watson to injury.
Flacco went on to help lead the Browns to a playoff appearance and was crowned the Comeback Player of the Year. The long-time Ravens quarterback threw for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in his five starts with the Browns.
Now that Flacco is in Indianapolis, what does the Colts' quarterback depth chart look like?
Colts QB Depth Chart
QB1: Anthony Richardson
This is a no-brainer. The Colts didn't spend the fourth overall pick on Anthony Richardson in last year's draft to have him sit on the bench in year two. Richardson showed a ton of potential in his rookie year before a shoulder injury sidelined him for the final 13 games of the 2023 season.
QB2: Joe Flacco
The Colts were unable to re-sign Gardner Minshew, who landed with the Raiders, so they were in the market for a reliable backup for Richardson. Flacco is a solid backup option and showed that if the starter goes down, he's more than capable of stepping in and leading an offense to victory.
QB3: Sam Ehlinger
With their sixth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Colts nabbed Sam Ehlinger out of Texas. Ehlinger has appeared in eight games for the Colts since then and made three starts, all of which came during the 2022 season. He threw for 573 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions during his four total appearances that year.
Don't be surprised if the Colts bring in another quarterback this offseason (likely through the draft or undrafted free agency) to compete with Ehlinger for the third-string spot but for now, this is the quarterback depth chart for the Indianapolis Colts.
