4 teams that make sense for former Colts linebacker Shaquille Leonard
2. The Philadelphia Eagles make sense for Shaquille Leonard
The Eagles are the best team in the NFL. They are 9-1, hold wins over the Kansas City Chiefs, the Miami Dolphins, and the Dallas Cowboys, and have stars just about everywhere you look on the roster. No way they need to add another former All-Pro player, right? Wrong. Philly absolutely needs help at linebacker.
The Eagles currently have linebackers Nakobe Dean and Shaun Bradley on injured reserve. The team’s starters are Zach Cunningham and Nicholas Morrow. After them, there isn’t much depth at inside linebacker and that’s why Philadelphia has been connected to every available linebacker this year.
Despite being 9-1, Philly’s defense hasn’t been as dominant as it was a year ago, though, the Eagles do have the No. 1 rushing defense, giving up just 76.5 rushing yards a game. Those numbers could be influenced by Philly’s struggling passing defense.
It probably won’t hurt the Eagles if they don’t get Shaq Leonard, but when you have a team this good, why not be sure and just answer any lingering questions on the roster. Leonard will definitely love to compete for a Super Bowl and he could help Philadelphia get back there.
