On Monday, April 10, the Indianapolis Colts hosted several draft prospects for a local pro day. Typically, the prospects for Indy’s local pro days have some connection to Indiana (high school or college), attend a college in a neighboring state, or are under-the radar prospects that didn’t get an invite to the NFL Combime.

At last year’s local pro day, the Colts hosted 41 players, including names like David Bell, Micah McFadden, Kerby Joseph, and Sterling Weatherford. Weatherford ended up joining Indianapolis as an undrafted free agent but was ultimately cut and claimed by the Chicago Bears.

This year’s list of prospects appears to be just as talented. A total of 48 players were in attendance, and the group was headlined by Ohio State’s Dawand Jones, Alabama’s Emil Ekiyor, and Kansas State’s JuJu Brents.

Colts host 48 prospects at local pro day

Jones, Ekiyor, and Brents are all from Indianapolis. Dawand Jones attended Ben Davis, Emil Ekiyor attended Cathedral, and JuJu Brents attended Warren Central. Now, they are all top prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft and would be great fits for their hometown Colts.

Ekiyor and Jones are both offensive linemen, something the Colts desperately need. Brents is a corner, another position group that Indianapolis must address. In a recent mock draft, one expert even predicted that Indy would select Brents in the second round of the draft.

While Indy is almost certainly drafting at quarterback in the first round, the team will have to decide if it wants to use its second-round pick on a linemen or defensive back. Will it be one of the Indianapolis natives? Will Indianapolis select a hometown kid in this draft at all?

We’ll find out during the NFL Draft at the end of the month. Whether in the draft or undrafted free agency, there’s a good chance that the Colts end up with one of the players that was in attendance for the local pro day.
