PFF names the three best players on the Colts roster
The Indianapolis Colts have several talented players but PFF recently picked three players that they believe are the best on the team.
Despite an underwhelming 2022 season, the Indianapolis Colts are a pretty talented team. Just two years ago, Indianapolis had a league-high seven Pro Bowlers. All seven of those players are still on Indy’s roster. Unfortunately, due to a combination of injuries and down years, the talent didn’t lead to wins last season, but it’s still there.
Who are the best players on this talented roster? Trevor Sikkema of PFF gave his answer to that question in a recent piece where he named the three best players on each NFL team. For the Colts, Sikkema made the case for Jonathan Taylor, Quenton Nelson, and DeForest Buckner as the team’s three best players.
Jonathan Taylor, Quenton Nelson, and DeForest Buckner named as Colts best players
Sikkema argued that Taylor is still one of the best running backs in the league, Buckner is an incredibly impactful defensive tackle, and Nelson is still pretty good, even though he had a down year in 2022. Sikkema also named Shaquille Leonard, Isaiah Rodgers Sr., and Michael Pittman Jr. as “standouts for a Colts team that could enjoy a big bounce-back year in 2023.”
It’s hard to disagree with these names. There’s a case for swapping Buckner with Leonard if Leonard was healthy, but he wasn’t in 2023, so Taylor, Nelson, and Buckner are Indy’s best three players based on last season. Additionally, since Sikkema did some honorable mentions, Grover Stewart also deserved a name drop based on how dominant and consistent he was in 2022.
In order for the Colts to be successful in 2023, all of these players have to be on the field and playing their best football for the majority of the season. That also goes for a player like Kenny Moore II, who was one of Indy’s seven Pro Bowlers in 2021. If all of Indianapolis’ veterans play up to their standards, and the young promising players can contribute, the Colts could make noise in the AFC South next season.
