The Indianapolis Colts are 0-2 to start the 2024 season and their Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers was incredibly frustrating. Not only did the Packers run roughshod over the Colts but Anthony Richardson was outperformed by Packers backup quarterback Malik Willis.
Richardson threw three interceptions and only one touchdown while Willis had one touchdown on the day but took care of the football. Now I'm not saying that Colts fans should want Willis as their quarterback over Richardson but the second-year quarterback has to play better if he wants to remain as the Colts starting quarterback moving forward.
This was only Richardson's sixth start as a pro quarterback after he missed all but four games for the Colts last season. He had some crazy plays in the Week 1 loss to Houston that highlighted just how incredible he can be but he also had some moments that made you say "Oh no". This week had far more of the "Oh no" moments.
Anthony Richardson was outperformed by Malik Wills in Colts' Week 2 loss
This was a winnable game for the Colts and that's saying something considering how many rushing yards their defense surrendered. If Richardson could have limited his turnovers and made the key plays when he needed to, we might not be all doom-and-gloom right now.
On the other side of the field, former Titans quarterback Malik Willis helped lead the Packers to victory in his first start for them. Colts fans probably didn't think much of Willis entering this game and while his numbers weren't eye popping, he was still able to limit mistakes and lean on the rest of his team for the win.
Let's hope Richardson learns from this loss moving forward and we don't have to write posts like this in the future.
