Kirk Herbstreit dropped the worst Anthony Richardson take of the preseason

The Indianapolis Colts wrapped up their preseason slate with a road game against the Cincinnati Bengals, winning it 27 to 14. Anthony Richardson played midway through the second quarter and finished the night completing 8-of-14 passes for 86 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

The pick-six was unfortunately not a great moment for Richardson but he also had a touchdown pass and people need a reminder that the guy started just four games last year. He's not going to be elite just two years into his career. The Colts knew he'd take some time to develop and they were okay with that.

Well, that didn't stop Kirk Herbstreit, who was calling the game on Amazon Prime, from saying that there could be a quarterback controversy in Indianapolis this season.

No, the Colts are not going to bench Anthony Richardson for Joe Flacco

The Colts spent the fourth overall pick on Richardson because they think he's the right guy for the job. They believe in his abilities to lead this team back to the playoffs and hopefully eventually to a Super Bowl as well. He'll need to take his lumps early in his career to develop into that franchise quarterback Indy is hoping he becomes.

Joe Flacco might have had a great second half in 2023 and that's why the Colts brought him in to back up Richardson. They thought Flacco would be a great mentor for their young signal-caller and that's why he's now donning the blue and white. They didn't sign Flacco to start him over their young quarterback, especially not with Flacco turning 40 years old next year.

Maybe the game just wasn't exciting enough for Herbstreit while he was in the broadcast booth but saying there might be a quarterback conflict when that couldn't be further from the truth is just silly.
