Jonathan Taylor doesn’t seem concerned about his contract situation with Colts
Jonathan Taylor is entering the final season of his rookie contract with the Indianapolis Colts but he isn’t focused on getting a contract extension done.
The Indianapolis Colts have a ton of players entering the final season of their contracts, and while that can be a nightmare for the franchise, the players don’t seem all that worried. First, Michael Pittman Jr. explained to the media that he wasn’t really worried about getting an extension done and that he won’t even be involved in negotiations. Now, Pittman’s draft classmate, Jonathan Taylor, is echoing a similar sentiment.
Speaking with the media on Wednesday, Taylor admitted how this is all new, so he kind of doesn’t really know what’s going on. He ultimately expressed that the contract situation and negotiations wouldn’t be a distraction to him, saying, “I’m under contract here for four years. I put the pen to the paper … I made an obligation to them. They made an obligation to me.” So he’s comfortable with just letting everything unfold.
Contract won’t be a distraction for Jonathan Taylor
It seems like Taylor is comfortable putting everything in his agent’s hands while he focuses on football. If that means an extension is agreed to this offseason, great, but Taylor doesn’t seem to mind the possibility of just playing the contract out. More than likely, Taylor will soon be amongst the highest-paid running backs in the NFL.
After rushing for 1,169 yards and 11 touchdowns as a rookie, then leading the league with 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2021, Taylor has already established himself as one of the best in the league. Even in a year with a nagging injury and a bad offensive line, playing just 11 games, Taylor ran for 861 yards.
It’s unlikely that Taylor will pass Christian McCaffrey as the highest paid running back, but Taylor’s next contract probably will put him just behind McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara. It’s also likely that next contract will be with the Colts.
